Which one do you think would be for say a alt rockl/rocknroll/psychedelia/experimental thing, the ES 175 or the Emperor? What would you say the sound difference is between the two?
Im thinking about buying a epiphone emperor VC, the guy says the cable jack needs tightened and he says the action "seems fine" but needs to be "set up" by a guitar shop to be in tip top shape. So i was wondering how much would something like thhat cost? Also how much would it cost to fix a warped acoustic to tip top shape?
There's alot of different variables when it comes to repairs. It mainly depends on where you're going to get them done. If you're just going to some music store in the mall or something like that, they're going to charge you a bit more. To have a guitar set up (intonate it, clean it, tighten it, re-string it ect.) that could cost you anywhere between 30 - 60 dollars.
I highly recommend looking for a guitar repair specialist in your local area. I used a phone book to find a guy who does repair work on guitars for a living, and knows what he's talking about. You'll get a MUCH better service and MUCH better price out of someone like that, than just a retail guitar store somewhere.
As for fixing a warped acoustic guitar, that can be a bit of a bigger task. You'd have to have your repair guy, or store person take a look at it and give you a good idea. That can go from somewhere like 100 - 300 dollars.
hellooo (:
can any one please tell me what kind off jazz was around in
1700 , 1750 , 1800 , 1850 , 1900 and 1950 ?
any websites if you have them ? thanks a bunch ;D
xx
The salesman I bought it from told me it was a 1965 Jazz Bass...but informants on eBay have told me it is a 1970's guitar; and a combination of P-bass body and Jazz-bass neck. Take a look at it, and let me know what price I should be asking. Some "guitar expert" wrote me an email immediately saying he'd take it from me for $1000...which makes me think I could get a lot more for it. He's probably trying to get a killer deal for himself since I don't know anything about guitar pricing. Thanks for the help.
things only sell for what the market will bear. if a grand is a profit to you, why not sell?
Electric Jazz Semi Blues strings for a semi-hollow body guitar?
OK people tell me what strings work best for you on your semi-hollow body!
When I read the reviews on Guitar Center for electric guitar strings and look for Blues/Jazz strings.
I get 'these are the best strings ever for my Strat.', "I sound just like SRV', etc... Well I don't play a Strat so this means nothing to me.
Any opinions on DR or D'Addario strings? How about Erin Ball? Lot of bad write ups on Erin Ball saying they are the junk food of strings.
DR strings are really really good strings especially for studio work. The tone and durabiliity are way better than Ernie Ball. Don't get me wrong, I use Ernie Ball on most of my guitars except that, on my old Les Paul, DR sound better for whatever reason. For semi-hollow, it is irrelevant because you are amplifying the sound. Having said this, I would prefer using DR because of the semi-hollow guitar. This allows the string to vibrate in and out of the guitar, giving a more fuller tone.
I use DR on my old ES-345 for jazz, blues etc.... Ernie ball cannot compete when it comes to anything but solid body guitar. As for saying Ernie Ball is junk food. I used Ernie Balls on my old Strats and some older Gibsons and they sound great although I do not keep them on more than 2 weeks because I burn them. I would classify some guitar players as junk when they do the write-ups. It it YOU that decides how the guitar should sound and play according to your experience. The guitar cannot play by itself. I agree somewhat but for the price, it is still a good buy.
Enjoy...
Gypsy Jazz on Electric Mandolin (Guitarra Baiana) - I'LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS
I really like the classic styled hollow bodied guitars, and I'm looking for a new electric. I heard that hollow bodies are only for blues and jazz, and I'm play alternative/rock/punk type music. So would it be a bad choice to buy a hollowed body over a solid body for this type of music?
Examples of stuff I play:
Coheed and Cambria
All Time Low
Escape the Fate
Fuel
Rise Against
Stuff like that. Do hollow bodies work well with distortion and stuff? Not super heavy, just a decent amount.
I was looking at Ibanez because I have an Ibanez acoustic, and it sounds amazing. Plus, they are cheap. Oh yeah, I'm LEFT handed. Sooo..that kinda limits my choices, I know.
Thanks
Also, are the strings on a classical guitar as tight as an acoustic? Or loose like an electric?
for stuff stuff you are talking about playing, you'll want a decent distortion. hollow body guitars are amazing for stuff that is lighter distortion. but for more of the punk type music, i would suggest solid bodies. hollow bodies can do distortion, but they don't have as good of a sound.
Jazz Stubby My Ibanez rgr421exfm not working like it should?
Whenever I pick, I feel that I’m not getting enough sound. No matter how loud I turn my amp up, I feel that the sound is still inadequate. The only thing that helps is turning up the distortion, and the songs I play shouldn’t need so much distortion. I know that the problem isn’t the amp because ive played my guitar with different amps (I own a line 6 spider micro). The pick is part of the problem, but not fully. I use stubby picks right now, and the material they are made of isn’t good, but even with a jazz III pick (pointed tip) I still feel like its not loud enough. The weird part is when I’m sweep picking, or just in general playing a solo, some notes are loud, and some are muted. I’ve been playing for a while, but maybe its my picking technique?
Oh another thing, when I first bought my guitar, I expected to be playing mostly metal music, but now I’ve gotten into much softer types of music too, so I don’t use much distortion. Is it just a problem with the guitar?
Hello there,
The reason you get a lousder sound by turning up the distortion is that the effects pedal has gain that boosts the signal. Sounds like you are getting a weak signal from one or more of your pickups. The gain in the distortion pedal is compensating for the pickups weak signal.
I think celluloid picks have a better tone than nylon and some of the other materials. I think celluloid gives a clearer tone, more bell like. Nylon tends to soften and muddy the tone. But I have not noticed a lot of difference in the volume due to the pick I use. So I do not think a swap of picks is going to have significant effect on the volume problem. It may change your tone, but won't give much more volume.
A swap of your pickups would of course solve the problem. However, not every one has the skills and experience to know how to do that. If you do, you should consider different pickups. A less drastic approach would be to look for a booster pedal, something to boost your signal without adding distortion. A preamp might work well. A clean boost pedal like the MXR micro amp would be a good choice.
With your distortion pedal, you probably have 3 controls, level, presences and distortion.
The level controls adjusts the amount of volume or signal boost. The presence controls frequencies for brighter highs and fatter lows. The distortion (or overdrive) controls the amount of grit or distortion. You can try this with your distortion pedal to see how it works. Set the level control fairly high to boost your signal strength (give you more volume), and set the distortion control as low as it will go. The presence you will have to play with to dial in the frequencies you like. Start with the presence down and then experiment with gradually increasing presence until you get a tone you like. That should give you some signal boost with the gear you already have.

Barney Kessel Guitar who would like to buy up to 30 Barney Kessel (1960.........be bop + ) amazing jazz guitarist , albums.?
These mint albums are all signed by Barney. He was an amazing player and also a very gracious, generous human being.Always willing to pass on helpful information, musical hints to anyone keen to learn, but not question like "What strings do you use." He regarded the guitar as merely a vehicle to express his musical feelings. He played with Billie Holliday,Fred Astaire,28 takes with Betty Grable,Momma Cass, and many others in the early hollywood days.Perhaps his best known track (pity) is Cry me a river, with Julie London. The arrangement took a massive 20 mins to work out ,and the track was recorded on the first take!!!!No more to be said.
