Ovation Guitars I have 2 guitars, a fender tele and an ovation bass - how do I find out how much they're worth?
I have serial numbers for both but would like to find out what their market value and re-sale values are before listing them for sale ... would appreciate any info on how to find this information.
Hi there,
Humongously variable possibilities here.
Both these companies have gone through many diverse changes since their inception decades ago. The value of your instruments will depend largely upon some sort of blend between where they fit in this trajectory [what vintage], condition, and current market demand.
Unless they're of very recent vintage, not an easy question to get a definitive answer!
Try the home websites of Fender and Ovation for serial number stuff, google telecaster fan club or ovation fan club, so on and so forth [google telecaster serial number, ovation bass serial number, etc].
One quick but tricky idea [not always a clear indicator], do a search on Ebay of the model you have, look in "completed listings", and see what someone paid for one.
But before that you will need to find out the vintage, which is back to the serial number.
I have a lonestar strat http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Deluxe-Lonestar-Stratocaster-Electric-Guitar?sku=515526&src=3WFRWXX&ZYXSEM=0&CAWELAID=89324142 its Mexican i wanted to know if the pickups are American and the parts are American. someone told me that they are American parts shipped to Mexico and built in Mexico, but someone else told me that its all Mexican. Where were the parts originally? thanks
Byrd is correct.
And they don't sound or play as good.
Mbrace Stand/Alvarez RF20SM/Fender Strat Jam Demo/Review
I've got a Fender Stratocaster I want to sell on ebay. I just don't know what a reasonable shipping price would be. It seems like it'd be really expensive to ship... does anyone know?
Thanks for the help.
Hi! Having bought and sold a number of guitars on eBay, I can say that the cost in this situation will vary most by the method of packing you use, rather than the weight. UPS has certain size constraints, where if you go even an inch over a limiting dimension, it puts you into a different weight category. The best way to keep both the weight and package size under control is to figure an inch of packing material around the guitar, and another inch around the hard shell case (if sold with one) or inner box. Packing can be crumpled newspaper, but best is styrofoam sheets cut to size. You can find boxes for free at music stores like Guitar Center, and styrofoam sheets are routinely discarded at furniture stores. The actual cost for shipping a Stratocaster will likely vary between $40 and $60 using UPS Ground, and extra insurance is cheap. I would not recommend FedEx Ground, as they are not very careful with this type of shipment, and USPS Parcel Post will be much too expensive. A package measuring 48-inches long, 18-inches wide, and 8-inches high, weighing 24 pounds, shipped from California to New York (plan for worst case) with a declared value of $600, will cost of $52.69 if dropped off to a UPS driver or sub-station (see https://wwwapps.ups.com/ctc/request ). Because of the size, the billable weight will be 36 pounds. Every inch you can reduce the size, you will bring down the cost; however, you introduce the possibility of damage with too little packing. Of course, eBay does have a shipping calculator that can be built into your listing, where a potential buyer can enter their location, and based upon your package size and weight will be advised of the cost to ship to their destination. Having said all this, my suggestion would be to list the shipping cost at a flat $60, which should cover any eventuality (except outside the continental United States, which should be specifically excluded from the auction). Savvy buyers will figure the shipping cost into the overall amount to be paid, and bid accordingly. Let me know if I can help further, okay? Best regards, Dana
Electric Guitar Instruments Could you get an electric harp or sitar to sound more like an electric guitar?
Okay, I'm a little confused about how electric instruments work. There's a vast difference in sound between the electric and acoustic guitars. But with other electric instruments (at least ones that I've seen) they sound more or less the same. Is it possible to get an electric sitar or harp or lute to sound a little more... electric? Am I missing something?
hmmm ok let me try to explain...
instruments (except the guitar) are made electric just for the simplicity of things. this way while recording or doing a live show you dont need to use so many microphones. when its electric you can plug it right into the mixer or the DI box.
also with these modern mixers and programs such as protools there are so many effects and plug ins available that you can make anything sound as if its being played live/acoustically.
p.s.
to further answer your question, im sure you could get them to sound more like an electric guitar (even though it defeats the purpose for that particular instrument). i recorded an entire song with an acoustic guitar and made it sound like an electric with a distortion pedal and the natural acoustic back and forth.
I have wanted to learn to play the Electric Guitar for a few years, but have not played any musical instruments before, other than playing around with a Flute. Will it be too difficult to to start with this?
Everybody has to start somewhere. I've been playing for a few years, and as long as you committ yourself to it, its not that hard to get a grip on.
Gibson Electric Guitar Bodies Whats your favourite acoustic guitar?
hey im just looking at buying a new guitar, and im not sure as to which i want!
i wanted an acoustic with a cut-away fer easier picking and what not, but really most cutaways are acoustic electrics.
acoustic electric isn't really a problem, there just alot more expensive from what ive seen.
so i was just looking for some of your opinions or suggestions as to what you think i should get!
they don't have to be cut-aways, but i do need an acoustic or acoustic electric.
I do NEED a small bodied guitar though whatever your suggestions might be! im a small girl!
this guitar is of course far out of my price range, seeing as im 15, but i love basically everything about it, the colors, wood, small body, cut away,
Anything you have to contribute would be greatly appreciated!
thanks
Ive also been playing for 6 years.. and i have had a few guitars.
Since you are young, and looking for relatively inexpensive guitars, I'd recommend Daisy Rock guitars. They have inexpensive lines that are sold at electronics stores, Guitar Centers and Musican's Friend online. I'd recommend trying a few different ones out at a Guitar Center, or your local store that sells Daisy Rock Guitars. They have various acoustic-electric cutaway models that have somewhat smaller scaled necks and bodies to accommodate smaller (feminine) guitar players.
So, after that big, free plug, know that other makers like Martin (e.g. the 000 down to the 5/Terz models) and Gibson (LG's & Emmylou Harris' L-200), and other smaller luthiers, make small bodied guitars. If you're standing while playing the guitar, usually the body size of the acoustic doesn't interfere as much with r/l hand stretching. If you use a footstool while sitting, both hands should have better leverage and more comfort while playing if you rest the guitar on your left leg.
There are all sorts of small ladies who play big ol' guitars (e.g. Natalie Maines, Sheryl Crow, Tegan & Sara, Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, Kaki King, etc), so don't be frightened by dreadnoughts with big, rich sounds! Especially when you get older and become a more dedicated player.
Another option is a travel size guitar. These can sometimes feel more like toys, but they are meant to allow traveling guitarists practice instead of taking very expensive guitars on risky flights. Whatever guitar you go with, make sure you aren't breaking your budget, and that your left and right hands are comfortable with the neck and the string action, which can often be altered by a professional luthier at the guitar store where your purchase will be made.
Ebay Auction Gibson ES-137 Electric Guitar Audio Sample
i need help finding year/info on my electric guitar?
it has a jackson headstock and the body looks like a strat. it has a maple neck and black body and says epiphone by gibson.
i cant find any info on it can someone please help me.
It is an Epiphone S210. It is a Korean made guitar that had an original price of $259.00.
It has a current retail value between $50 and $160 depending on condition. Selling it to a shop that buys used gear will get you 35% to 50% of that.
Paul Guitar Have you ever owned a Les Paul guitar?
Les Paul, inventor of the solid-body electric guitar so central in modern popular music, and himself one of the greatest guitarists who ever lived, died today at age 94.
I used to have a Gibson Les Paul. Had to sell it, but I loved it.
59' Standard starburst & I actually have a 80's takai love rock model that gibson sued for being way too close.
