Will a Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar be good for playing at church?
I'm thinking about getting one and but I am not sure if it is a good fit for the type of music we sing. We sing in the style of Lincoln Brewster, Hillsong, Chris Tomlin and sometimes some gospelish things. thanks
Yes. If you are not familiar with the tone of a Strat, it's got a super-clear sounding tone - almost acoustic-sounding, sometimes. It's an excellent instrument for "gentle" music like your church plays. It's the kind of guitar that will make you sound professional just because of the awesome tone. GET ONE.
a fender squire fell in my lap and i'm wondering if i should consider replacing the neck and electronics. it's a decent guitar and holds its tune. it would be great for a beginner, but you know, it frets out 12th fret up, (when you bend the strings). it's a chaeapo guitar. it does have a rosewood neck on it. what should i do with this piece of crap? put it in the fireplace or what?
can you just put heavier strings on it with a different bridge, or what? thank you. jim
I would recommend replacing the neck with Warmoth "Pro" Replacement Strat neck. I can't tell you details because it is up to the player of the guitar to choose wood, tuner hole sizes, etc., but i would recommend just plain maple with rosewood fingerboard, and buying seperately a graphtech nut, and some locking tuners. this should add up to about $240. if that is too much, just replace the whole guitar. it is cheaper to buy electronics in a guitar, instead installing custom.
Lucky dog rule by Nascar is ok, but part of it is not fair, see details and let me know if you agree?
the part of the rule that is not fair, is the part where the first driver a lap down does not get the lucky dog pass if he is involved in the caution, It should be modified to say ( unless the caution is caused by the second man down. here is why.
In Texas 2 weeks ago, Newman was the first man down to get the lucky dog pass, Biffle was the second man down, Biffle then hit Newman in the left back fender of the car, causing Newman to spin out of control, Caution is out and Newman is denied the lucky dog pass cause he is involved in the caution, they then give the lucky dog pass to Biffle, If this rule is not modified, you will start seeing the second man down, purposely spinning out the first man to to cause a caution and the second man gets the lucky dog, Looks to me like Biffle has that already figured out, and spun Newman out on purp[ose.
I agree, NASCAR should change the rule. I never thought about it, but its true.
Display Case Is there a way to build a display case that only shows what is inside when you flick a switch?
I want to build a display case that when the light inside is off you cannot see what is in there. I am going off the inverted concept of tinted glass where you cannot see what is inside if there is a light on the outside. I think if I put tinted glass on the outside with the tinted part facing the outside of the case, and I put a small light on the inside, you will only be able to see what is inside that case if the light is flicked on, otherwise it is dark. is this possible?
Your idea of using tinted glass and black interior is very good. It actually does not matter whether the tinting is on the inside or on the outside, as long as the amount of light entering your box is much less than the reflected light from the glass surface (typically 4% per surface, at normal incidence). You would require about 95% opacity for your tinted glass for the items inside the box to remain "invisible" while the inside light is off.
Best of luck with your project.

How to build a Christmas village display case/coffee table?
I have Christmas village pieces and no place to display them in season. I'm thinking of removing my coffee table and replacing it with a display case that could also serve as coffee table. I'm looking for something that would be elevated (for cords) with a clear top. The sides do not have to be clear as the back of the buildings is not interesting. AND it has to be easily taken apart for storage. All on a budget, of course. I'd appreciate templates, ideas, resources for clear tops, etc. Thank you!
My first thought is a furniture consignment shop and/or a commercial business consignments shop/retail outlet that would sell Jewelry store type display cases, perhaps you'd have to modify.
To actually construct such a thing, not knowing if you have the ability, could be as costly and time consuming.
What you're talking about is commonly called a Diorama and Not knowing the size of your collection, or size of the largest building, you'd certainly have to know. The height of a coffee table bothers me just a bit, in that it would be rather low to the floor, in which case, if it was mine, I'd want the sides to be clear as well as the top.
Also not knowing any use besides an on view display case I might want Plexi or safety glass rather than plate. The case itself,e specially if you build or buy can probably be separated from a base. But what you're talking about, as a coffee table might only be 18 inches to the top/viewing area and half of that might be the Diorama?
