Strap Stand I had shoulder surgery 11 wks ago and still have considerable pain and swelling. How long should this last?
I have been doing my exercises faithfully and going to PT. I still can't sleep well , hook my bra and stand the bra strap on my shoulder. Is this normal?
Oh ya its normal. Like i had surgery on my lung relating to back and chest pain. Though i had surgery in a different are than you i had pain for about 3 months. Then i really wasnt back to myself until 5-6 months. Its all time and how you use your shoulder. You use it or lose it! So keep up with ur exercises but dont hurt your self. Hope u feel better

Rising Sun Where in Canada can I buy an alarm clock that simulates rising sun?
I want one of those alarm clocks that simulates the rising sun. Waking up to light is so much more pleasant that an annoying BEEP. However, I have no idea where I can find one of these clocks in Canada. (I live in London, Ontario)
Also, does anybody know what the proper name for these clocks is?
I suspect that you'll have to hunt the internet for one. A quick search of the words 'sunrise' and 'clock' found me a plethora of pictures. I saw one listed for sale from The Sharper Image some years ago but looking through these pics and their websites should come up with something suitable for you. I've included a page for one that I think looks attractive and useful. You can google the words I mentioned if you want to see others.

I don't think you need to be on the minute but an approximate time is best.I think rising signs change every 3 hours.
Beginner Guitar What would be a good thing to teach a beginner on guitar?
I'm giving beginner guitar lessons to a 10 yr. old kid and i don't know what to teach her. Any websites? (I don't need to teach her tablature) any sites for learning notes or fun games to teach her with?
While you may find ways to make it more fun, the reality is learning how to play guitar takes serious effort. If your student and you are serious, the first place to start is with teaching her to accurately tune the guitar. If the guitar sounds out of tune everything sounds wrong which discourages a beginner really fast. The other thing that discourages beginners is the guitar they are given to learn on. Often beginners are given inexpensive guitars to learn on, either old hand me downs with heavy stings and high action a pro would find difficult, or cheap guitars so badly made that they wont tune properly, or stay in tune. A beginner with a guitar like this is doomed to lose interest. If this sounds like the guitar that she's learning on don't despair. Your local guitar repair shop can probably make it play easier and in tune for lots less than an expensive new guitar. The best thing you can teach her for having fun as soon as possible is the major chords in the first position. Forget about scales and notes for now. Just teaching her E,A, D, and G,C,F will allow her to play tons of recognizable songs which will give her positive encouragement to learn more.
One of the first things you think of if you contemplate beginner guitar lessons is the cost. What is a fair price to pay for guitar lessons? If you are thinking about taking lessons from a local guitar teacher, then the first thing you should know is that this has become the most expensive way of taking lessons on the guitar. Prices charged by guitar teachers vary widely so you are likely to be charged more in Sydney, London or New York than you are in a small town in Outer Slobovia. And we have not even started to talk about how teachers vary in quality and experience.
If you are not confident about learning guitar from a book or an online course, then you will need to make some kind of value judgement about whatever guitar teachers are available and sign up for whatever the minimum number of lessons is. An ongoing concern should be keeping your guitar in tune. If your guitar is not kept in tune then your friends will not want to hear you play. In fact your playing might make them want to hurt you. You can find guitar tuners online. You can even find tuners that you can save on your computer. A metronome is also essential, so find and download yourself a free metronome and get into the habit of using it as you practice. You can set the metronome for very slow speeds to begin with and increase the speed as your technique gets better.
Warming up is as important for a beginner guitar player as it is for an athlete. You can do serious damage to yourself by holding your guitar in a way that puts too much strain on your back, plus the way you make chord shapes or use the plectrum could also be leaving you open to repetitive strain injury. If you do not know anybody who can give you advice on this subject, do an internet search. The principals are the same for typists, musicians or anybody who does fine, repetitive work, so read up on it wherever you can. This leads onto the subject of strumming patterns. Once you have learnt a few chords you will need some strumming patterns to practice. This is as much to keep your learning chord changes fresh as for learning strumming itself.
The things I have mentioned in this article are the very basic topics that a beginner guitar player should consider when thinking about lessons. As you do more research you will find many more things to learn about guitar lessons in general and your musical genre in particular.

Tune While Do you ever experience this: when you write a song and completely forget its tune after a while?
I find it really aggravating, especially when you can't recall the tune at all.
yep. I once thought of this really cool song. I had the lyrics and the tune in my head then i get distratced for a second and i forget it all. I would write down the lyrics fast as for the tune just try to remember it. If you can;t record the tune with your cellphone or something. Hope i helped.

Guitar - Tuning to Perfection
There's an old and tired joke that "guitars are tuned at the factory" - unfortunately, wood bends and warps, strings lose tension and the forces of nature make sure your guitar needs tuning every time you pick it up. Read that last bit again, because the sooner you get into the habit of assessing your guitar's tuning, the more rewarding your playing will be.
It doesn't matter how dazzling you are on guitar, one strike of an unharmonious string will destroy any charisma you had.
The problem is, too many guitarists neglect tuning as though it is some 5 minute job to "get out the way" before you practice or noodle. Get out of this mindset immediately. You need to spend time tuning your guitar to make sure chords all over the neck sound in tune and harmonious.
Unfortunately, fretted instruments made of wood can never be tuned perfectly (sorry, I mislead you slightly with the title there!), but there are quick methods you can use to accurately tune your guitar to the human ear...
The resource at the end of this article will take you to more indepth lessons - these are just for introductory purposes...
1) 5th fret method - the classic tuning method which most beginners favour. This method simply involves fretting a string (at the 5th fret, except for the G string) and matching the note with the next open string. Your ear has to be well trained for this to be accurate, and there is an awkward exception involving the B string, which on most guitars needs to be manually adjusted to be in-tune on most chords.
2) Harmonics - tuning harmonics are a quick and accurate way to tune your guitar to itself. It involves creating a resonating harmonic on two strings at a time, and picking out what sounds like a vibrating effect between them. This "wobbling" effect is created when two naturally harmonious intervals are off-kilter, so all you need to do is tune up or down to resolve the vibration into one, straight resonating harmonic. This is a really accurate way to tune, because you're tuning an open string to another open string, rather than a fretted string to an open string which causes natural inaccuracies. You can learn more about creating the harmonic and this great tuning technique at the end of this article.
==Tweaking and double checking==
3) Comparing note for note, string for string - this is basically where you find a note on your fretboard, and compare it with the same note, or its octave, on another string at another fret. E.g. comparing the G note on the E string at fret 3 with the octave G note on the D string at fret 5 - these two notes should sound the same (but of course, the octave will be higher in pitch). This is seen as a more practical method of "tweaking" your tuning because you're comparing notes on strings that will likely appear simultaneously within chords - therefore, if they're even slightly out of tune with each other, the chord will be ruined. More obviously...
4) Comparing double tones in chords - chords that use 4 or more strings often include double tones (e.g. the root note appears twice in the chord), and open position chords down at the first few frets (e..g E major, G major, C major etc.) double open tones with fretted tones. Try playing the E major open position chord, one of the first chords you will have learned - the A string at fret 2 should be almost perfectly harmonious with the open B string, because they are the same note, just an octave apart. You may find the notes are slightly off, so adjusting will give you a more practical compromise when it comes to tuning for chords.
==General good tuning practise==
There are several ways to tune your guitar, but it's important that you tweak after you've tuned up (or think you have anyway!)
What I do is use a few tuning methods, like the ones detailed above, because often you'll find you can reach a good compromise between the few methods to really get well-balanced tuning. By well-balanced, I mean that some chords (e.g. full barre chords vs floated chords that mix open strings and fretted strings) will need to be compromised to ensure any chord you play sounds acceptably harmonious.
At first, you don't notice, but as your ear becomes trained, you begin to pick up on nuances in the tuning of your guitar. The key thing to remember is you must spend time tweaking your tuning, no matter which method you use.
Just don't become too obsessed - remember to leave some practice time to actually play some guitar ;o)

I am interested to buy Revolution for my 3 year old cat, Chipmunk to gain more control of Fleas and ear mites. I am interested if anyone can recommend me to buy Revolution on-line in Canada because i don't want to pay any customs duties fees from the border if i order anything from the USA. My Vet wants me to pay over 130 dollars just for him to take a look at my cat and admistrate the Revolution on him which i find it outrage.
