African-American history/The trans atlantic slave trade.?
From what i know,most African americans presently in the US has most of their ancestors coming from the Gold Coast presently Ghana,bcos i heared the slaves from Gold Coast were robust,hardworking,disease resistant and very strong as compared to most of the various other slaves from other countries,is that true?Its no challenge that most other african americans in the US and some from jamaica still consider Ghana to be their ancestral homes.If no where actually do most afriacn americans in the US come from?Which place in africa has most of this present day african americans traced their ancestry from?
If you look at this map, you will see the regions from where most Africans were sent. In reading about the slave trade in Africa, the Yoruba tribe of present-day Nigeria comes up a lot. I recently read a book about the slave trade which told that slave traders purchasing slaves in Africa would choose different locations for different kinds of slaves. They said that some tribes had more skills in some area, some were better for physical labor, some were better for house work, and so on. I can't recall any specifics. There are some website that claim to help African-Americans find out where their own ancestors came from. Over a few hundred years, I would imagine most African-American people are a real blend of many tribes. And that's an all-American quality, isn't it?
